Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can therapy or psychiatric medication management help me?

Both therapy and psychiatric care offer powerful tools for healing and growth. Therapy provides a safe, supportive space to process emotions, explore patterns, and learn new ways to navigate life’s challenges. Medication management, guided by a psychiatric provider, can help regulate mood, reduce symptoms of anxiety or depression, and support overall mental wellness. Many clients find that an integrative approach—therapy and medication together—offers the best support for their needs.

  • This is my first time seeking therapy or medication support, and I’m nervous. What should I expect?

It’s completely normal to feel uncertain or anxious about starting therapy or psychiatric care—especially if it’s your first time or you’re helping a child or teen get support. Our team understands how vulnerable this step can feel. Whether you're reaching out for yourself or a loved one, our role is to create a supportive, judgment-free space where you feel safe and understood. During the first appointment, we’ll take time to get to know you, understand your concerns, and talk through the best next steps—at your pace.

  • Do I really need therapy or medication? I usually manage things on my own.

It’s common to try to push through tough times alone, but reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether you’ve hit a breaking point or just feel “off,” therapy and psychiatric care can offer relief and new perspective. You don’t have to wait until things get unmanageable to get help.

  • Why do people seek therapy or medication support? How do I know if it’s right for me?

People seek therapy and psychiatric services for many reasons: life transitions, emotional overwhelm, trauma, burnout, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, or just a desire to understand themselves better. If you're feeling stuck, exhausted, or unsure how to move forward, it may be time to consider one or both forms of support.

  • What is Therapy like?

Therapy is tailored to your unique needs. Sessions may focus on current stressors, past experiences, or patterns you're ready to change. You'll explore thoughts and emotions in a safe space, with support from a licensed therapist. Therapy can be short-term or ongoing, depending on your goals. You may also be given tools or practices to explore outside of session to support your growth between visits.

  • What is psychiatric medication management like?

Psychiatric appointments focus on understanding your mental health symptoms, history, and treatment goals. Your provider will assess whether medication might be helpful and, if so, recommend options based on your needs. Ongoing sessions are used to monitor your progress, adjust medications as needed, and ensure the treatment plan supports your overall wellness.

  • What about medication vs. therapy—how do I choose?

You don’t have to choose one or the other. Many people benefit from a combination of therapy and medication. Therapy explores the root causes of emotional challenges and helps you build tools for long-term resilience. Medication can help regulate symptoms to make that healing process more manageable. Together, they can create a well-rounded path to wellness.

  • Do you take insurance, and how does that work?

Yes. We are currently in network with Cigna and Aetna, and are in the process of joining other panels. To check your coverage, call your insurance provider and ask about your mental health benefits, including:

    • Your copay or coinsurance for therapy or psychiatry
    • The number of sessions covered per year
    • Whether prior authorization is needed If you have out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill upon request for possible reimbursement.
  • Is everything I share confidential?

Yes. Whether you're in therapy or psychiatric care, your privacy is a top priority. Your provider will review confidentiality policies with you during intake. In general, your information is kept private unless you provide written consent to share it. There are a few legal exceptions to this, including:

    • If there's suspected abuse of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult
    • If there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others These are rare, and we always prioritize your safety with care and compassion.
